Call Your Legislators: Pass the Let NY Vote Priority Bills Before the End of Session!
With just under one month left in this year's legislative session, we need all hands on deck to pass four crucial bills protecting our elections in New York. Below, you'll find all the scripts and information you'll need to call your legislators and advocate for Let NY Vote's priority bills. Thank you for taking action!
1. Call your Assemblymember
- Find your Assemblymember and their phone number here.
- Here's a script you can use, but feel free to personalize your message:
"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm calling from [TOWN/CITY] to urge [ASSEMBLYMEMBER] to support three bills related to protecting New York voters.
First, A7052C would allow New York to join the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), an interstate data-sharing organization, to improve the accuracy of our notoriously unreliable voter rolls.
I'm also advocating for two bills that would ensure smooth election administration. A919A requires local election commissioners outside of New York City to be full time employees and A1258A sets minimum staffing requirements for local boards of elections.
As your constituent, I urge [ASSEMBLYMEMBER] to strengthen and protect our elections by supporting these critical bills before the end of session. Thank you for your time."
2. Call your State Senator
- Find your Senator and their phone number here.
- Here's a script you can use, but feel free to personalize your message:
"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm calling from [TOWN/CITY] to urge [SENATOR] to support two bills related to protecting New York voters.
S9126 would move odd year elections, including city elections, to even years. Doing so will significantly increase voter turnout for local offices, reduce racial and age-based gaps in participation, and lowers voter fatigue. New Yorkers support this policy by a two to one margin, with strong support from voters of both parties.
I'm also advocating for another bill that would ensure smooth election administration. S644A sets minimum staffing requirements for local boards of elections.
As your constituent, I urge [SENATOR] to strengthen and protect our elections by supporting all two bills before the end of session. Thank you for your time."
3. Call Governor Hochul
- Here's the Governor's number: 518-474-8390
- Here's a script you can use, but feel free to personalize your message:
"Hi, my name is [NAME] and I'm calling from [TOWN/CITY] to urge Governor Hochul to support four bills related to protecting New York voters.
S9126 would move odd year elections, including city elections, to even years. Doing so will significantly increase voter turnout for local offices, reduce racial and age-based gaps in participation, and lowers voter fatigue. New Yorkers support this policy by a two to one margin, with strong support from voters of both parties.
I'm also advocating for two bills that would ensure smooth election administration. S611B/A919A requires local election commissioners outside of New York City to be full time employees and S644A/A1258A sets minimum staffing requirements for local boards of elections.
Lastly, S6173B/A7052C would allow New York to join the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), an interstate data-sharing organization, to improve the accuracy of our notoriously unreliable voter rolls.
I hope we can count on the Governor's support for these bills so we can strengthen and protect New York's elections. Thank you for your time."
