Rebel for Justice
This Rebellion is proposed to take place from the 16th-23rd February. At the very least, we hope to hold the site for several days, maybe even up to a week, but even if we are cleared before the end of the week, highly disruptive actions will continue to take place until the 23rd.
This Rebellion will target 3 institutions with our demands: The University of Cambridge, Cambridge City Council, and Cambridgeshire County Council. The 3 demands are likely to be versions of the following:
The University of Cambridge must cut ties with the fossil fuel industry.
Cambridge City Council must hold a Citizens’ Assembly on Climate Justice.
Cambridgeshire County Council and the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority must provide a plan for a just transition away from an inadequate transport system reliant on fossil fuels.
The key message of this Rebellion is No Climate Justice without Social Justice. Through this, we hope to emphasise the connections between Climate and Social Justice, keeping the messaging focused on those who are suffering now, rather than on our futures or those of our (real or imagined) descendants. By holding this Rebellion in Cambridge, we want to be clear about the role that institutions in Cambridge have in perpetuating climate and social injustice locally, regionally, and globally.
