CBA EA 2020: Better & Simpler for Us.

The union for bank workers, the Finance Sector Union is in negotiations with the Commonwealth Banks of Australia for a new Enterprise Agreement.

That means that we have the opportunity to renegotiate our pay, working arrangements and rights at work with CBA.

The union is focusing on three key areas:

Pay

The massive underpayment scandal that rocked CBA in 2019 primarily came from the complexities of employing more than 40,000 people on separate and different contracts (Individual Flexibility Arrangements) with all different pay rates and conditions of work - often for the same roles. We now have the chance to improve these practices, and bring CBA employees a fair, and consistent pay structure.

Contracts

Employment arrangements at CBA are unnecessarily complex and highly individualised. Most employees are employed under "individual arrangements" or "individual flexibility arrangements" that limit an employee's access to some conditions of the enterprise agreement in exchange for a slightly higher salary.

It is the union's positions that a new EA should to apply to all employees without exception - bringing fair EA conditions to everyone.

Respect and Change

From intensification of work through new regulatory requirements and the COVID Pandemic, multiskilling, and cuts to hours for front line workers, staff at CBA are feeling the pinch.

Many don't feel like their experience and perspectives are listened to in times of change and that they're powerless when it comes to addressing changes to their working arrangements. A new EA should strengthen processes for staff to be listened to when it comes to changes that affect their working lives.
