Create a vision for a Better Erwin Road
Bike Durham is calling for safety and accessibility improvements on Erwin Road from Cameron Boulevard to Main Street in Durham, NC during the Fall 2022 road resurfacing. We propose a Complete Streets treatment including a separated bus and ambulance lane in each direction on Erwin Road, which can be shared by those biking, and improved road crossings for people walking and in wheelchairs. There are way too many crashes of all types on this stretch of road and this is our once in 15 year opportunity to make this road safer and accessible to all.
Bike Durham is calling for the City of Durham and NCDOT to uphold their Vision Zero and Complete Streets policies while repaving Erwin Road in Durham to build for safety and accessibility for all. A new restriping plan must be submitted and approved by NCDOT by August, so time is of the essence.
We need your voice to hold the City and NCDOT accountable to do as much as they can this fall by repainting the street in a way that improves the safety of everyone who uses this key corridor.
We also need your voice to call on the City, NCDOT and other key partners like Duke University and the VA Hospital to commit to developing and finding funding for a long-term vision for a safe, equitable, and beautiful Erwin Road.
