DACA won! I'm ready to fight for the 11 million

The Supreme Court just ruled in favor of DACA, blocking Trump’s 2017 attempts to end the program for undocumented youth. This a major victory for hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients and their families! Now more than ever, we must choose to shift our fight to one for permanent protection for all undocumented immigrants.

DACA allows hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants to work and live with some protection from deportation, but the last 3 years have shown us that temporary protection for some immigrants is not enough.

For too long, undocumented immigrants have been denied justice and lived with the daily fear and reality of being separated from our loved ones and being left to suffer or even die in detention centers. Criminalized by police as people of color and immigrants and terrorized by ICE in a coordinated attack against our people. We have been forced to live in the shadows, unable to return back home, forced to live and work without the dignity and respect we deserve, made invisible and disposable by a country that criminalizes us every day but needs us to sustain its economy at the same time - even during a global pandemic.

Since Trump first attempted to repeal DACA in 2017, both Republicans and Democrats have used Dreamers as political bargaining chips without taking any action to really support us and our families. Thousands of lives have hung in limbo for 3 years as DACA was tied up in the courts. For the last 2 months, we’ve had to check the news with uncertainty every time the Supreme Court releases opinions, in case they’ve decided the future of 800,000 people.

We have lived decades unrecognized by a country that takes so much of our dignity and humanity away yet expect us to continue to show up to pick its food, build its roads, teach their children, and be part of its essential workforce. Enough is enough!

We refuse to be bargaining chips and we won’t settle for breadcrumbs.

We deserve permanent protection — not temporary protection and work permits that can be challenged, taken away, or stuck in legal limbo for years. Undocumented youth have always been part of the 11 million undocumented immigrant in this country. Today, with DACA saved by the Supreme Court, it is time to shift our fight as a movement to demand protection for everyone.

If you are a DACA recipient, undocumented without DACA, or an ally, take our pledge now to fight for PERMANENT PROTECTION for all 11 million undocumented immigrants!
