Demand the resignation of acting FEMA Chief Administrator David Richardson now
When David Richardson became the acting chief administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and held his first all-hands meeting with agency staff he told them: "Don't get in my way… I will run right over you."
Since then, under Richardson’s leadership, FEMA has denied federal assistance for tornadoes in Arkansas, flooding in West Virginia and a windstorm in Washington state. It also has refused North Carolina’s request for extended relief funding in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, something Trump personally promised during his campaign – while making up lies about the lack of support NC received from FEMA under President Biden.
Now, with the start of Hurricane Season on June 1st, we find out this:
While more than 100 people died during Hurricane Helene, a recent study estimates that even with full FEMA support for recovery, somewhere between 7,000 to 11,000 people will die over the next 15 years as a result of just this one storm, maybe even more.[1]
Enough is enough. Whether Richardson meant it as a joke or truly didn’t know, either way, he is not qualified for this job.
