Demand Police Accountability!
George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Rayshard Brooks. Eric Garner. Philando Castile. Michael Brown. Tamir Rice...too many to count.
It is clear, once again, that we, the people, especially our Black brothers and sisters, are being targeted, detained, and even killed by those entrusted to serve and protect our communities without consequence. These officers and their agencies must be held accountable.
In 2019, Nevada enacted AB478, which requires law enforcement officers to complete a minimum of 12 hours of training annually on racial profiling, mental health, officer well-being, implicit bias recognition, conflict de-escalation, human trafficking, and firearms.
Unfortunately, there is no evidence that these trainings are even taking place or are in compliance with the standards laid out in AB 478. The unchecked police violence, specifically against Black and brown communities has reached a boiling point. It is critical that we take action to ensure that police are held accountable and protecting our communities without bias – not policing us with prejudice.
We are proud to support Black Lives Matter, and join our partners in the racial justice, civil rights, and anti-racist movements in calling for policing and criminal justice reforms.
We follow the laws. Police should too, starting with AB 478. Add your name NOW!
