with Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner, Karina Martin Hogan & Michelle Schenandoah
Join us for a deep dive into contrasting Creation Stories and their implications for gender, labor, and our relationship with the Earth. We’ll begin by exploring the role of women in Indigenous and Christian cosmologies — Skywoman as the life-giver and embodiment of the Earth, versus Eve’s portrayal in patriarchal texts as subservient temptress. Of equal importance, we’ll also examine the political and cultural worldviews that shaped them both.
Building on the previous conversation, “From Suffrage to Solidarity,” we’ll discuss how our oldest stories shape our understanding of this moment in history, our gifts, and our roles. Expect a dynamic mix of commentary from a feminist theologian, Indigenous leader, and women’s suffrage expert, weaving together our lineages for the liberation of all. Together, we’ll reflect on what these ancient stories can teach us about leadership, disrupting oppression, and forging sisterhood.
