Help Us Spread the Word: State Takeover Is Wrong for JCPS!

Earlier today the interim Commissioner of Education, Dr. Wayne Lewis, announced his recommendation for the state to take over the Jefferson County Public Schools.  Also included in his recommendation was the appointment of current Superintendent Marty Polio to continue as the state manager of JCPS, with the school board in an advisory capacity.  This is unacceptable because it removes the power of our democratically elected board to make any decisions. There would be no process to hold accountable the very individuals that operate and manage the schools and educate our children.

It is true that JCPS needs to improve and close learning gaps, especially for our students of color, but a state takeover is the wrong answer.  The proven solution is investing in our local schools and the communities around them.  We need to work together to insure that all students learn in a school with small classes where they receive one-on-one attention, engaging after school programs, and services that support their physical and emotional needs.

We need your help to get the word out about how a state takeover of JCPS will harm our students and families!  We will be reaching out to the community by passing out informational flyers with links to our petition so the entire community can tell the Kentucky Board of Education to reject this undemocratic recommendation.
