Call Governor Tomblin and tell him to veto the voter suppression bill.

There is still time to defeat efforts to suppress votes in your state. A bill requiring identification to vote passed in both the House and the Senate and is awaiting the governor’s signature.

Last month, Daily Kos members from across West Virginia demanded their senators block legislation making it harder for the elderly, students, people of color, and poor residents to vote. Lawmakers heard you and eased restrictions by including a number of different identification options, but many of these documents are still unavailable to a number of West Virginians. Voter turnout will still suffer.

Now it’s time to put pressure on Governor Tomblin. Tomblin doesn’t believe West Virginia has a voter fraud problem, but still plans to sign this unnecessary voter ID bill into law very soon.

Please take a moment to call Governor Tomblin, using the number and sample script below and tell him: “Voter ID of any kind creates barriers to voting and is not needed.”

Hello. My name is __________ calling from __________. Voter fraud is non-existent problem in West Virginia. Voter ID requirements don’t combat fraud; they decrease voter turnout by making it harder for the elderly, people of color, students, and low-income residents to vote. Do not damage our elections. Veto this unnecessary voter ID bill.
