JCIJ Volunteer Opportunities

Accompaniment includes many ways of walking in solidarity with immigrants as they navigate the complicated and often frightening immigration system, offering chesed - loving kindness, solidarity, and community.
Here are the current accompaniment volunteer opportunities through JCIJ:
Colectiva Legal del Pueblo in Burien offers pro bono and low bono legal support to immigrant community members. Language fluency other than English is generally not needed, but when preferred will be indicated, to support Colectiva Legal with
- Legal clerical tasks
- Organizing their clothing and diaper bank
- In-person accompaniment for their clients.
Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) Mutual Aid Welcome Packages for New Immigrant Arrivals
Deliver mutual aid welcome packages to new immigrant arrivals to the Seattle area. Referrals come from the WAISN Hotline and packages are supplied by WAISN. Language fluency other than English is generally not needed but when preferred will be indicated.
Observe ICE Flights
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has resumed flying community members into and out of King County Airport (formerly known as Boeing Field) to either move them to the Tacoma NW ICE Processing Center formerly NW Detention Center (NWDC) or to deport them. Volunteers observe the flights every Tuesday morning on a screen in the airport terminal, and send statistics to La Resistencia. Language fluency other than English is not needed.
Immigration Court Accompaniment
Accompany community members to Immigration Court in Seattle. Referrals come from the WAISN Hotline or from legal service providers. Training is required and fluency in a language other than English may be needed.

Riverton Park United Methodist Church
Support migrants seeking asylum who live on the grounds of Riverton Park Church.
- Language Interpretation- Portuguese, Spanish, French, Lingala needed
- Assist Migrants filling out forms for TPS, questionnaires for asylum applications, other legal tasks
- Supply donation
- Tutoring and homework help.
Newsletter and Fundraising Support for JCIJ Activities
JCIJ's accompaniment and other activities receive support through distribution of our newsletter. In addition, funds are needed to support JCIJ's activities.
