The Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry (SHL), founded in 1994, is a nonprofit educational and social association that builds community for non-religious people in South Carolina’s Lowcountry, exercises progressive values through volunteer service and mutual aid, and defends the First Amendment guarantee of separation of church and state through secular activism. SHL is a chapter of the American Humanist Association, and affirms the dignity and worth of every human being without discrimination against race, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, nationality or disability.
