Las Posadas in the UWS (Dec 17th - 22nd)
Las Posadas is a Christmas tradition celebrated in Mexico and other Latin American countries that commemorates Mary and Joseph's journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem, asking for lodging/Posada. After hearing many times that there was "no room at the inn," they finally found refuge in a humble stable. Today, we recreate this tradition by asking for “posada” in places where our communities continue to be denied the resources, access, and services they need to survive and thrive.
Join us as we walk through different sections of the Upper West Side in Manhattan, calling attention to the different sites in the neighborhood that have denied access to the least of us, who are most of us, and walk alongside others, singing and sharing reflections until we are welcomed into one of the churches in the neighboorhood.
Join us one evening or all evenings as we prepare for a petition delivery to End Child Poverty in New York on our last evening together. New York State continues to have the worst income inequality and some of the highest child poverty rates in the nation, yet we also have the resources to solve these problems.
