Local 689 demands meal and bathroom Breaks For Transdev Bus Drivers

Local 689-Washington, DC, is calling out WMATA contractor Transdev for not providing bathroom and meal breaks for their bus operators at Cinder Bed garage in Northern Virginia. “Imagine driving 10 hours straight… we could be at the Florida state line,” said Local President Raymond Jackson at a protest in Northern Virginia outside Washington, DC. “Imagine doing that without stopping for the restroom one time or getting something to eat.” The Local has been pushing back against the agency’s efforts to privatize the system pointing to countless cautionary tales of privatization that lead to service and safety issues. “For these guys to take a break… it’s not profitable for Transdev,” Jackson said. “And that’s what happened when you bring in private industries… it’s all about the profits.
