Mass Civil Disobedience for Climate
When: Saturday 9 December, 3:00 pm (at the end of the Slow March for Climate)
Where: Flinders Street Station, Melbourne CBD (Naarm)
Climate breakdown has begun. We need disruption to end the destruction – and we need absolutely everyone to make it happen.
It's going to take all of us. It's going to take courage and community. It's going to take being a little bit naughty.
Saturday 9 December 2023 will be the biggest day of action for December Rebellion – a spectacular display of people power, as we take to the streets for a strong show of nonviolent civil disobedience, building bonds to prepare to escalate further in the coming months.
It is very important you register for this action.
The aim is for 300 people, or more, to sit peacefully on the road and refuse to move. Click 'Maybe, tell me more' and we will ring you to discuss any legal implications. You may be pleasantly surprised!
Civil resistance, when done properly, cannot be ignored. That is what we need to be right now to defend our planet: to be unignorable. It’s up to us! When governments fail, it's the people who must rise up and make change. You are called to join us and demand a better world.
So far we have over 130 people registered to take part. Sit with us in mass resistance to make a better world, to demand an end to fossil fuels, to demand that we need to repair our ecosystems, begin reforestation and the drawdown of carbon from the atmosphere.
The action will be carefully managed by experienced XR organisers to ensure it is a safe and effective exercise of our right to peaceful protest. We know that by gathering in large numbers and showing our determination we can force our governments to act with the appropriate urgency on the climate and ecological emergency we are in.
We highly recommend attending Non-Violent Direct Action training to be fully informed about how to take action safely and responsibly. There will also be many opportunities to attend briefings about this action. Register now to be invited along.
Now is the time for people to step into their courage, go a step further, and take the necessary action. So, if you think you are ready to be in resistance against this murderous state, or want to find out more, sign up and we will be in touch with further details.

We acknowledge that we rebel on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung people of the Kulin Nations. We pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging. We recognise their fight to prevent ecological destruction since colonisation (which continues today) and we join their continued resistance when we stand up for climate and ecological action and justice.
