New Ed Campaign Training and Resources

As announced by NEA Executive Committee Member Eric Brown at the inaugural meeting of the Young Professional Caucus, the Center for Organizing will be conducting a 3 day training for young professionals on organizing and the New Educator Engagement, Support and Recruitment Campaign(New Ed).

Details on the Training
Dates:

Saturday September 10th - Monday September 12th

  • Saturday 9/10: arrive for afternoon start and evening events
  • Sunday: 9/11 a full day of training and evening program
  • Monday: 9/12 a full day of field experience; Monday evening off or departure to home
  • Tuesday September 13th: departure anytime

Topics that will be covered:

  • Organizing Skills training, especially effective one-on-one conversations
  • Digital Skills Training, and overview of the New Ed digital program
  • Professional Supports and Professional Development Briefing from Center for Great Public Schools
  • Sharing Best Practices Examples from States with established Young Professional Organizations
  • Degrees Not Debt Trainer Training
  • ESSA Implementation: How Do Early Career Educators Experience the ESSA Opportunity?
  • Racial Justice in Education: Opportunities for Local Engagement
  • Optional Field Experience Monday September 12th: In partnership with the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association, we will conduct school visits with 1st year teachers

In addition to the skills training component, this convening will provide time for:

  • Planning the New Educator campaign back home
  • Create a toolkit for other state affiliates to create Early Career Educator Groups
  • Support the creation of Early Career Educator Groups in their region
  • Establishing on-going support mechanisms
