Dear Prime Minister

We, the leaders and members of faith-based organisations listed below, call upon you to urgently remove children seeking asylum and their families from Nauru to Australia, New Zealand or another suitable country that will welcome them.  

We join with the Australian Medical Association and Royal Australasian College of Physicians who have described the situation on Nauru as a “humanitarian emergency” and with the many thousands of Australians calling for all children and their families to be urgently removed from Nauru.

It is never too late, nor too early, to treat those seeking protection, especially children, with the great respect, compassion and dignity they deserve as part of the human family. We would never treat our own families as they have been treated for the past five years or more.

We call upon your Government to remove all children and their families from Nauru by Universal Children’s Day, 20 November 2018.

Further, we call upon your Government to urgently resettle all people seeking asylum and refugees from Manus Island and Nauru to Australia or other suitable countries which are ready and able to welcome them.
