Petition: Ban the Cruel ‘Sport’ of Steer Tailing
ACT NOW: Ban the horrific and inhumane rodeo event known as steer tailing (aka “coleadero”), a headlining event at charreada “Mexican style” rodeos held regularly in Okeechobee County (FL), throughout Florida and around the country.
In this cruel spectacle, terrified steers are chased at high speeds by riders on horseback who violently twist and yank their tails in an attempt to slam the animals to the ground. This brutal act frequently results in dislocated tails, crushed vertebrae, nerve damage, open wounds, and extreme psychological distress.
This is not sport. It’s not culture or tradition. It’s animal abuse, plain and simple.
URGENT: The next steer tailing event is scheduled for April 19, 2025, at the infamous Rancho La Esperanza during Sabado de Gloria.
Florida and Okeechobee County can follow the compassionate example set by Alameda and Contra Costa Counties (CA), Sedgwick County (KS), Omaha and the entire state of Nebraska—communities that have already taken a stand against steer tailing. Many other communities have taken the next step to ban rodeos altogether.
JOIN US: Ban steer tailing before Rancho La Esperanza’s next vile steer-tailing event.
Animal Recover Mission has witnessed blatant cruelty at Rancho La Esperanza many times. If allowed to proceed, Okeechobee County and the state of Florida will be complicit in condoning torture for entertainment.
We implore you — stand for compassion, decency, and progress. Ban steer tailing now.
Sign this critical petition, and we will send your name along with thousands of others to Okeechobee County Commissioners, Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office, Florida Senator Erin Grall, and Florida Representative Kaylee Tuck so that we can make a more significant impact on your behalf.
