Many Islanders are concerned about the plan to build a new diesel power plant in a residential area in downtown Charlottetown. We know these diesel combustion turbines will be costly to build and to run, leaving PEI ratepayers on the hook with expensive bills and at the mercy of volatile global fuel supply chains. We also know there’s a better way: batteries that store energy when the wind blows and tie directly into the NB grid, smoothing energy demand, and putting Islanders in control of our energy and proud of building a made-in-the-Maritimes clean energy future.
But we’re up against an energy procurement process built in favour of dirty and expensive diesel. Islanders support clean energy, but our outdated legislation makes large, expensive fossil fuel based power the top option for the utility.
That’s why we need to raise our voices! But whether you’re writing an op-ed, posting on social media, or meeting with your MLA, speaking up can sometimes feel daunting.
In this interactive workshop, we’ll address the key issues with the proposed diesel plants so you feel confident in sharing your concerns. We’ll learn different ways to share our messages and practice crafting our own stories. Whether you're new to advocacy or looking to refine your approach, this session will help you speak up for energy democracy in PEI with confidence.
