North Carolina recently passed a law that allows individuals and businesses and organizations to use their religious beliefs as an excuse to discriminate against gay and transgender people.

Georgia and Virginia both had similar "Religious Freedom" bills that, under the pressure of social and financial backlash, were vetoed by their respective governors. Mississippi just passed an even more sweeping attack on civil rights in their latest effort to “protect” Christians.

All of these laws are examples of state governments taking away the civil right protections of the LGBT communities. These protections are essential to our democracy and our constitutional values.
