President Trump's press secretary Sean Spicer caused justifiable outrage when he claimed that Adolf Hitler (unlike Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad) did not "sink to using chemical weapons."

But his explanation was even worse. He renamed Nazi concentration camps "Holocaust Centers," and said that Hitler was "not using the gas on his own people." Which suggests that German Jews were not German.

Sadly, this problem goes far beyond one press secretary. From the moment he hired Jeff Bannon as a chief White House advisor, President Trump has empowered and enabled neo-Nazis.

Hate crimes are on the rise in this country, and this has to stop.
