Sign now: Protect Public Servants' Retirement

Social Security works. Period.

But it can always be better. When Social Security was created benefits didn’t automatically keep pace with inflation. Certain groups of employees were excluded. Over generations, Americans have built a Social Security system that is fairer and stronger. That work is not done. It’s our turn to do our part.

Two technical provisions known as the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) have been denying public servants the full Social Security benefits they've earned. As Social Security Works’ President Nancy Altman testified before Congress recently, it’s time to repeal it.

The WEP-GPO provisions penalize public servants who have contributed to Social Security, but are not getting their full benefits. They are often shocked to learn that they are not receiving the benefits they were expecting. It undermines confidence in our Social Security system and, indeed, our government. . We must do better for our teachers, firefighters, police officers, and other dedicated public servants.

The solution is simple: Repeal WEP-GPO and ensure that teachers, firefighters, and police officers receive their full Social Security benefits!

Tell Congress:

Eliminate the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset provisions that deny public servants the full Social Security benefits they have earned over a lifetime of hard work.
