Sign the petition: Corporations must stop funding the lawmakers behind the Texas abortion ban

The Texas law banning abortion, SB8, is officially in effect. This extreme, misogynistic, and oppressive law bans abortions after six weeks—before most women know they are pregnant—even in cases of rape and incest.
Not only are corporations refusing to take a stance on this outrageous law, but they actively helped finance it. The right-wing extremists that sponsored the bill didn't get there on their own—they were funded by 86 major Fortune 500 companies.
Some of these companies have pretended to be allies of reproductive rights, but records of their campaign donations tell a different story.
UltraViolet, an advocacy organization that fights for women's equality, conducted research on corporate actors funding anti-abortion legislation and found that since last year, American corporations funneled more than $5.9 million to the Texas legislators who sponsored the bill. Seven of those companies, shown below, contributed a whopping $1.1 million.
The lead sponsors of the bill received over $100,000 from those seven corporations.
AT&T, a company that pretends to pride itself on workplace diversity and inclusion, was the highest contributor to anti-abortion lawmakers.
In a statement to Business Insider, Chevron said that it engages with "numerous elected representatives who take positions on a range of issues." Yet, out of all donations the company made since last year, 50% of them were to the sponsors of SB8. Flooding one group of lawmakers with half of your total donations is far from contributing to "a range of issues."
With other state legislatures falling all over themselves to follow Texas' lead and enact their own abortions bans, it's more important than ever that corporations take a stand supporting abortion rights.
