Sign the petition: Demand the Senate pass the Equality Act

In 2020, the Supreme Court ruled that LGTBQ working people cannot be fired from their job just because of sexual orientation or gender identity. This ruling is historic, but there are still critical gaps that must be addressed.

Though the ruling was a huge leap for civil rights, it is still legal under federal law for stores, restaurants, and hotels as well as federally funded programs like hospitals, colleges, and adoption agencies, to discriminate against LGBTQ people. It’s also still legal to discriminate against trans people in restroom access.

We must demand Congress pass the Equality Act -- a landmark piece of civil rights legislation.

If enacted, the Equality Act would be the first law to ensure LGBTQ people are covered by consistent, explicit, and nationwide non-discrimination protections in employment, housing, and access to public spaces and services. It will explicitly establish permanent protections against discrimination based on an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity.

We all should be able to fully participate in public life. Everyone deserves the freedom to support themselves, provide for their family, and live as their true selves. Everyone deserves comprehensive, nationwide protection against discrimination.

President Biden committed to passing the Equality Act in the first 100 days. The House has passed the Equality Act -- now we must demand Congress do the same.
