The Environmental Protection Agency has been using the coronavirus outbreak to push through controversial policy changes that are extremely harmful to the environment and our health.

The EPA issued a sweeping suspension of its enforcement of environmental laws, telling companies they would not need to meet environmental standards during the coronavirus outbreak. The temporary policy, which has set no end date, would allow bad actors to skirt environmental laws without penalties, caving to pressure from industry.

In other words, factories, power plants, and other major polluters have full discretion in deciding whether or not they think the coronavirus will prevent them from meeting legal requirements on air and water pollution and hazardous waste management.

The EPA was established to protect the environment and our health. Yet, these regulations will allow additional pollution to be emitted into the air we breathe -- during a global health crisis!

What's more, the EPA is moving full speed ahead with a plan to limit the use of research based on private health data, restricting the EPA’s use of science when making rules. This rule is being quietly slipped under the radar as many public health officials who would have serious concerns over the policy change are busy in efforts to fight COVID-19. SHAMEFUL!

This is just another example of the Trump administration exploiting the coronavirus crisis to deregulate industry.
