An unprecedented, terrifying number of anti-LGBTQ+ legislations have been introduced or already passed this year in state legislatures across the country. These legislations are direct, discriminatory attacks that especially target the transgender community.

These attacks at the state-level are a highly disturbing trend that seems to be growing–2021 was once the worst year in recent history for LGBTQ+ state legislative attacks, was then surpassed by 2022, and then again in 2023.

There is a clear and undeniable push to strip LGBTQ+ individuals of their rights. Currently, there are no federal laws that explicitly protect LGBTQ+ people from discrimination. This allows the states to enact heinous legislation to outright discriminate.

This can, and must, change. Congress can act now to protect all Americans’ inalienable right to exist. The Equality Act, the only piece of federal legislation to explicitly affirm LGBTQ+ civil rights, can rectify and protect LGBTQ+ individuals from these attacks at the state level.

This is an issue of basic, protected freedoms and protection from direct, discriminatory attacks against individuals. We elected our congressional leaders to ensure those basic rights are protected. Join us in demanding Congress pass the Equality Act and stop the denial of our freedom to exist.
