On Tuesday, April 4, Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) took to the Senate floor to oppose the nomination of Trump's extremist Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch.
He held the floor for more than 15 hours, using the time to detail Republican hypocrisy, Gorsuch's extremism and what is at stake for our communities if this confirmation moves forward.
Sen. Merkley (D-OR) was the first senator to declare he would use every tool in his power to stop this power grab—including a filibuster.
He kept his word. His filibuster demonstrated what leadership looks like and set the bar for Democratic resistance in the Senate.
