Sign the petition: The Trump Administration must stop hiding election security information from Congress

Trump is once again trying to conceal crucial election information from Congress -- putting our national security and the integrity of our elections at risk.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) has informed the House and Senate Select Committees on Intelligence that it will no longer give in-person briefings on election security issues. This drastic and unprecedented change will curtail the ability of members of Congress to ask questions about the office’s findings -- and limit their access to timely updates on election interference attempts.

This major shift comes after top intelligence officials issued a warning that Russia, as well as China and Iran, are trying to interfere with the 2020 presidential election.

Eliminating these in-person congressional briefings on election security will hamstring our members of Congress. It’ll prevent them from learning about attacks on our democracy in real time. This is a blatant and obvious attempt to keep Congress and the public in the dark about the threats facing our elections.

Trump has repeatedly denied that Russia tried to help his campaign in 2016, despite reports from the FBI, the CIA, the National Security Agency, the Justice Department, and the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee that say otherwise.

At the center of this dangerous ploy is Director of National Intelligence (DNI) John Ratcliffe, a Trump loyalist with no previous intelligence experience. As a U.S. representative, Ratcliffe scoffed at and discredited our national intelligence -- and even promoted outlandish conspiracy theories about the Russia investigation.

We must make it clear to Ratcliffe that his job is not to protect Trump and help him win elections. It is to protect the foundation of our democracy and keep us all -- Congress and the public -- informed about any threats posed to our country.

Sign the petition: Demand John Ratcliffe immediately reinstate in-person election security briefings for Congress.
