Sign the petition to President Biden: Please don't delay ensuring our access to affordable, safe Internet

Since January, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been deadlocked in a 2-2 partisan split because President Joe Biden has yet to select a permanent chair. Biden has just three months before the end of the calendar year to confirm acting chair Jessica Rosenworcel or nominate a replacement pick.

What does this mean for us?

As you may recall, under Trump, the Chairman Ajit Pai's FCC voted to repeal net neutrality, ending the free and open internet as we know it. Net neutrality is the basic principle that companies who provide internet service cannot play favorites with different Internet content, blocking our access to websites, throttling our Internet speeds, or imposing unfair fees based on what we’re accessing.

Net neutrality is what allows everyone to have equal access to the Internet, giving big tech companies, individual creators and scrappy startups a level playing field to innovate and create on the open Internet. Without basic net neutrality protections, large phone and cable companies are able to block, throttle and slow access to sites and services at will, charge new fees for users and companies to reach audiences online, and freely sell our data. Some states passed local net neutrality laws after it was repealed nation-wide, but only the FCC can bring net neutrality back for all of us.

It has been over three months since Biden called for bringing back net neutrality. That cannot happen, however, without a 5th FCC commissioner. Bringing back net neutrality and bridging the digital divide should be key priorities of the FCC and of Biden -- that is why we must demand Biden stop dragging his feet.

Sign the petition: Demand Biden appoint a FCC chair and focus on bringing back Net Neutrality NOW.
