Sign the petition to the next administration: Remove Trump's postmaster general

Americans depend on the mail to quickly deliver lifesaving medicines, election ballots, bills, checks, and other essential goods and services, and the novel coronavirus has Americans more reliant on package delivery than ever. But now, we are facing MAJOR delays.

Trump has an agenda: to privatize and sell off the public Postal Service. But with current high approval ratings for the US Postal Service, that’s not a possibility. Trump's solution? -- slow the mail to the point where people aren’t going to like it anymore.

In New Jersey, residents say they’re going days without mail. In Chicago, citizens complain that their deliveries are running weeks behind. And California residents are fretting over mortgages and rents put in jeopardy by a mail service that seems frozen.

The driving force behind this grand scheme are changes introduced by Trump appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. DeJoy was a Republican Party fundraiser who Trump rewarded with the postmaster job in June. Postmaster generals typically have post office experience and usually stay in place for an extended period, but DeJoy is the first person in half a century to lead the office without having started as a letter carrier. He also slipped into office with almost no attention from Congress or the press

DeJoy is enacting Trump's plan by slashing overtime work, in addition to other changes that will delay mail, as the Postal Service staff finds itself stretched thin. Nearly 40,000 workers have had to quarantine after exposure to the virus.

Additionally, DeJoy directed employees to leave mail behind at distribution centers if it delayed letter carriers from their route. This directive could actually lead to postal workers violating federal law for purposely delaying the email.

DeJoy is acting only to support Trump’s agenda. During this critical time when millions of Americans rely on the USPS, we cannot allow a postmaster general to continue to purposefully delay our mail in order to put a buck before our needs.
