Sign the petition: Urge President-elect Biden to fight for global access to affordable COVID-19 vaccines in his first 100 days

As COVID-19 vaccines are being developed and prepared for distribution, we must ensure that the vaccines get to everyone, everywhere. With COVID, no one is safe until everyone is safe.

As world leaders race to acquire and distribute coronavirus vaccines, the world’s poor are being left behind: wealthy countries have bought up most of the vaccines major pharmaceutical companies have promised to manufacture and prices are out of reach for the little vaccine stock that is available to low-income countries. Two World Health Organization-led programs, COVAX and the COVID-19 Technology Access Pool (C-TAP) can fix this.Working together, they can speed up development of COVID-19 vaccines while expanding manufacturing capacity at affordable prices for global and equitable distribution. But they need US support.

We urge President-elect Biden to join C-TAP and the 189 countries participating in COVAX in order to ensure equitable and accelerated access to vaccines for the global community, within his first 100 days in office.

COVAX and C-TAP will make vaccines available to people in poor countries, and accelerate development, manufacture, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines to as many people as possible, as quickly as possible, as affordably as possible.

Under Trump, the United States has largely abandoned the world’s poorest nations in the race for vaccine development and distribution. If we want this pandemic to end, we cannot deny access to those who are unable to afford a vaccine.

Joining the WHO effort will strengthen U.S. national health security by helping to quickly bring the pandemic to an end around the world by ensuring equitable, affordable access to a vaccine for all. Our new president must use every tool at his disposal to end this pandemic, and prevent the next!
