The Presidential Inaugural Committee has taken a strong first step by rejecting money from fossil fuel executives, companies, and associated PACs, recognizing the corrupting influence of the industry's money.

While the fossil fuel industry is indeed pernicious and should not be afforded this opportunity to influence the nascent administration, other corporate interests must be also prevented from wielding undue influence. We therefore urge Joe Biden's Presidential Inaugural Committee to expand its ban on donations from the fossil fuel industry to encompass all major corporate sectors.

Barack Obama did not accept corporate contributions for his 2009 inaugural, and neither should Joe Biden. Rejecting these corporate contributions is a key step the Biden administration can take to signal where its allegiances lie.
