Oil and gas companies have been systematically gaslighting us for years. The industry uses manipulative rhetoric by describing climate as a "risk" versus reality and consumer energy as a "demand" versus supply to create a "Fossil Fuel Savior" framework. That framework downplays the existence and urgency of climate change, normalizes fossil fuel dependency, and shifts responsibility onto the consumer.

That is the same strategy the tobacco industry used to shift blame away from corporations. Big Oil pockets fossil fuel subsidies that could be going towards healthcare, education, and infrastructure. Haven't they taken enough from us?

A recent report by the EPA showed that low-income communities of Black and brown folks are disproportionately affected by the harmful effects of climate change and fossil fuel pollution. Many of those polluting facilities are deliberately placed in those communities, robbing them of clean air, clean water, and a life without toxic waste in your backyard.

The Build Back Better Act would lower carbon emissions with new clean energy programs, tax incentives, and grants. It would also invest in coastal resiliency programs, combat drought and wildfire, and give incentives for residential weatherization and green electrification.

This is our last chance to turn the tide on climate change. We must pass the Build Back Better Act to ensure a clean, green future for all.
