Representative Rashida Tlaib has introduced a new resolution in Congress to formally recognize the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza and end our country’s complicity in it.

Sponsored by 20 of Rashida’s colleagues in the House of Representatives, this resolution lays out evidence showing that Israel’s actions meet the legal definition of genocide under the Genocide Convention—including the Israeli military’s own data, which says that 83% of Palestinians killed in the past two years have been civilians.

The resolution demands the U.S. follow its obligations to prevent and punish the crime of genocide—including by ending weapons transfers, stopping military aid, sanctioning Israeli officials, and holding other perpetrators of this genocide to account.

It notes that our government has sent $52 billion of our tax dollars to Israel’s genocidal military over the past two years, through military aid and weapons transfers.

And now, the Trump administration is negotiating with Israel’s government to send $76 billion more in weapons, paid for with our tax dollars. Congress must act now to stop these illegal weapons giveaways.
