Stand with Families. Fight the Gag Rule.

What is the Domestic Gag Rule?

The Department of Health and Human Services is sabotaging the Title X family planning program with a rule that would deny federal funding to reproductive health care organizations that provide abortion care in addition to family planning services, and also restricts healthcare professionals from even referring patients elsewhere for abortion.

Let us be clear: This is blatant government overreach, and represents a political assault on the women and families nationwide who rely on Title X providers for the health care they need.

Maine Family Planning administers the state’s Title X funding, supporting a robust and effective network of health centers  — including our 18 clinics around Maine — that provide high-quality family planning services to all Mainers, regardless of how much money they make.

How will the Gag Rule harm Mainers?

  • The Gag Rule will force health care providers in Maine to choose between providing sound medical advice and receiving critical family planning funds

  • The Gag Rule could erect barriers between 23,811 Mainers and access to birth control, pregnancy and HIV tests, cancer screenings, abortion care, and more

  • The Gag Rule will dramatically restrict rural, low-income, and LGBTQ+ Mainers’ access to essential, affordable care

We have a responsibility to our patients, and we intend to fulfill it. We will not accept these politically motivated changes to Title X, but will instead fight to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to the people and the families of Maine.

Stand with us and help fight the Domestic Gag Rule.
