Stay in the Loop! Weaving Solidarity: Rug-Making with a Political Edge

The Weaving Solidarity project includes three Ukrainian traditional rug-making workshops led by artist and activist Maryna Sulym, using recycled clothing and textile waste. Each workshop will be co-hosted by a guest from a different community affected by systemic oppression— starting with Palestinian and trans activists.

Through the act of weaving, we will learn the practical skills of rug-making while also engaging in deep, cross-community conversations. The workshops use the tactile, collective process of weaving as an entry point into political discussions—exploring shared struggles, lived experiences, cultural contexts and possibilities for solidarity as a form of organising into power.

Three additional follow-up sessions will allow participants to complete their rugs and continue the conversations in a slower, more reflective space. These sessions are intended to deepen connections, bridge contexts, and build a foundation for ongoing collective resistance.
