Texas is facing a school staffing crisis due to years of underfunding. Together, we can end the staffing shortage and guarantee a safe, stable and high-quality education for every child in Texas. This legislative session, educators, parents, and students are coming together to demand:
Respect in our paychecks. A minimum statewide $10,000 raise for teachers and certified staff and a minimum 15% raise for support staff to stop the school staffing crisis and stabilize our schools.
Respect for our classrooms. Close the class size loopholes. Every year, the Texas Education Agency allows districts to dodge class size laws, leaving parents in the dark, and leading to overcrowded — and unsafe — classes for students and overwhelming workloads for educators. No educator should ever have to teach two classes at once.
Respect for our schedules. A defined work year with a specific number of contract days. Currently, a Texas school employee can't predict their work day, work week, or even work year. Educators shouldn't have to sacrifice weekends with their families to fill the gaps left by the state’s chronic underfunding of our public education system.
