Tell CBS News: No cushy jobs for Trump's chief of staff

Donald Trump’s former chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, was just hired by CBS News as an on-air contributor! At his first appearance, CBS identified him only as a former Office of Management and Budget director without stating which administration he had served under. Mulvaney proceeded to disparage President Biden’s budget proposal, using CBS News’s credibility as cover for partisan hackery.

Staff at CBS and CBS News have expressed disgust. “Everyone here is baffled,” one staff member told the Washington Post. And CBS’s Late Show host Stephen Colbert was most blunt:

Mulvaney, who served under Trump first as Director of the Office of Management and Budget, then as Acting Chief of Staff while Trump extorted Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy, leading to his first impeachment. When Trump’s Ukraine extortion was made public, Mulvaney told the press to “get over it.”

Mulvaney is also an ideologue with a long history of advocating the destruction of Social Security and Medicare, two of the most popular programs in the United States. Mulvaney was the architect of Trump’s budgets that proposed to cut $25 billion from Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and he clearly hoped to be able to go after more in Trump’s second term.

CBS executives reportedly said that they wanted to hire Republicans like Mulvaney in order to get access to Republicans on the chance that the midterms go well for them. But Mulvaney has ZERO insight into the Republican mindset, particularly as Trump stages his comeback. This is what he wrote in the Wall Street Journal shortly after the 2020 election:

That didn’t exactly work out.

Giving Mick Mulvaney a cushy contributor job does nothing to inform CBS News viewers. He can only be counted on to push his pro-Billionaire, anti-Social Security misinformation agenda.

Sign if you agree: CBS News must fire Mick Mulvaney!
