TELL CONGRESS: #FixItFirst; ADDRESS THE MASSIVE PUBLIC TRANSIT REPAIR BACKLOG
The pandemic dramatically showed that transit is essential to our communities, local economies, and the lives of millions of people across the country. Essential workers depend on transit; businesses depend on transit; historically marginalized communities depend on transit.
In fact, frequent and reliable public transit is critical to reducing reliance on carbon-emitting cars and trucks, while also promoting racial justice and equitable access to everyday destinations.
None of it works without sustained funding for maintenance.
For decades the Congress has funded new capital projects with little regard to keeping what’s already built running, reliable and repaired. We’re calling on Congress to allocate $20 billion dollars a year for maintenance with a goal of eliminating the repair backlog in 12 years. Please sign our petition now.
