Donald Trump and Elon Musk are dismantling the Environmental Protection Agency to do the bidding of fossil fuel interests.

Already, they have told more than 1,000 EPA employees to stay home and prepare to be “fired immediately.” This purge would be a boon for fossil fuel interests and fossil fuel executives. Musk and Trump are dismantling the programs that measure the impacts of burning fossil fuels, and the first cuts are the staff that support poor and minority communities disproportionately affected by pollution.

Musk has already illegally ordered the shutdown of USAID, with a purge of most USAID employees. Employees at the Energy Department’s office of energy equity, which is intended to ensure that poor and minority communities have access to affordable energy, were ordered to stay home on January 23.

This is the canary in the coal mine. Unless we speak up now, the EPA and the Energy Department will be completely gutted and then re-staffed with fossil fuel friendlies. And they won’t stop there―the Department of Veterans Affairs, Social Security Administration, and more are in their crosshairs.

Remember: We already have the technology to create enough clean power to end our reliance on fossil fuels. Musk and Trump are acting as instruments of the dying gasps of fossil fuel billionaires who are trying to cling to their fortunes. Instead of clinging to dirty energy, we should use the technology we have to create jobs, grow the economy, and provide abundant, clean, American power!
