Tell West Virginia Governor Jim Justice to Take Action to Save Jobs at Viatris

Nearly 900 members of USW Local 8-957 at the Viatris (formerly Mylan) Generic Pharmaceutical Facility in Morgantown, W. Va., are at risk of losing their jobs if Governor Jim Justice doesn't take immediate action.

Viatris was established in Nov. 2020 when Mylan combined with Upjohn, a business spun off from Pfizer. One month later Viatris announced that it would permanently close the Morgantown facility.

Not only are these these jobs vital to the local community, but the closure of a major domestic source of generic pharmaceuticals, particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, would be devastating to all Americans.

The West Virginia Legislature passed H.R. 24 which urges Governor Justice to form a task force with congressional representatives, labor organizations and other industry leaders to call on President Biden to invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) and save our siblings' jobs.

Under the DPA, the facility would be retrofitted and placed into production for manufacturing, packaging, and shipping of critical, life-saving medical supplies including vaccines, medications, and personal protective equipment.

Our brothers and sisters are proud of the work they do and are ready to use their skill, dedication and hard work to help supply our country’s critical needs.

Governor Justice needs to act now. Sign our petition if you agree.
