Chapter Endorsement - First-Round Ballot (SAMPLE)

This sample ballot was created to provide an example of the Our Revolution Arizona Coalition two-round endorsement process. This example of a first-round ballot was drawn from 2018 Arizona statewide races. This is not a live ballot.

SUMMARY:

This ballot is the first in a two-round process to determine which candidates will be endorsed by the Our Revolution Arizona Coalition or the particular chapter conducting the endorsement vote. This first ballot will determine which candidates are supported by the group or chapter. A future second ballot will determine which supported candidates will be endorsed. The full endorsement process is detailed within our Regional Chapter Policies.

This ballot is for statewide offices. Separate ballots will be generated for the races for U.S. House, the Arizona State Legislature, and other local offices.

FIRST BALLOT EXPLANATION:

The first ballot in the Our Revolution Arizona Coalition process is an elimination ballot. The purpose of this ballot is to determine (based on Our Revolution values) which candidates in each race are worthy of consideration, and which candidates are not. This ballot is not designed to establish a favorite candidate in each race, but only to determine which candidates that members would support in office. On the first ballot, you are given as many votes as needed to select all candidates that you would support if elected.

Candidates from each race that receive votes on a majority of cast first ballots will advance to a second round endorsement ballot. Candidates from each race that receive votes on less than a majority of cast first ballots shall not be considered for endorsement.

FIRST BALLOT INSTRUCTIONS:

For each race, place a check in the box next to every candidate you would support if elected. If you feel that no candidates in a race are worthy of support, select "None Of The Above". If you do not know enough about any of the candidates to cast a vote, or wish to abstain in a vote for a particular race, select "Undecided / Abstaining".

EXAMPLE: A race on the ballot contains one candidate you rate as "excellent" and two more you rate as "good". The "excellent" candidate is your favorite, but you feel that either of the "good" candidates would adequately represent you in office. Based on the ballot instructions, you check the box next to each of these three candidates.

A NOTE ABOUT THE PROCESS:

First-round ballots are designed to include ALL candidates, regardless of party, that have qualified for the electoral ballots in the appropriate district or state. Please note that inclusion on the first ballot does not imply support. We are aware that some candidates in some races may be opposed to Our Revolution values. However, our commitment to a democratic process has led us to a simple conclusion: that the power to eliminate candidates from consideration belongs to the people (in this case our members), and not with the few people managing the process at any given time.

Each one of our voting members is pledged to support Our Revolution values. We expect each of you to honor that pledge when you cast your votes, and we intend to hold members accountable when they do not. If we find that any of our members are voting in opposition to our values, our leadership is prepared to address it. However, we are confident that our members will make the right decisions for all of us.
