Thank Your Rep. for Co-Sponsoring the Berta Cáceres Human Rights in Honduras Act!
March 2nd marks the two-year anniversary of the assassination of Berta Cáceres, the beloved Honduran Indigenous and environmental rights leader, and Witness for Peace continues to demand justice for her brutal, politically-motivated murder.
Honduras' crisis of killings and repression of protesters and social leaders by its state security forces following its highly contested Nov. 2017 election demonstrates that more than ever we need to suspend military and police aid to Honduras. And with the Trump administration's rhetoric and action that antagonizes human rights, and especially with figures in the administration like Trump’s Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly--who supports military aid to/militarization of Honduras--the voices of opposition to U.S. support for these perpetrators of grotesque human rights abuses are more important than ever. The Berta Cáceres Human Rights in Honduras Act is still seeking co-sponsors, and we need your help shoring up support for the legislation! Please call today to thank your Representative for co-sponsoring the bill!
