Trump Must Go - St. Louis Pledge of Resistance!

Update: The people have spoken. All major news stations have called this election for Joe Biden. As we are all breathing a sigh of relief and celebrating, we must also remain vigilant and ready to move into action to prevent any more erosion of our democracy and social fabric as Trump has the next 2 months in office with basically no oversight or checks and balances. Communities across this country have been showing up in the streets to demand that this country lives up to its promise of an equitable and just future that works for everyone. We ask you to still sign this pledge and promise your assistance in the future days, weeks, and months as we work together to realize this future.

Donald Trump must go. It’s as simple as that. For four years, Trump has used hate, state violence, unprecedented corruption, and executive overreach to harm and force his agenda on people throughout the United States and around the globe. His racist rhetoric has fueled the murder of Black and Brown people in our communities; his failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic has caused hundreds of thousands of deaths; and his support of the fossil fuel economy has accelerated the climate crisis.

From his attacks on mail-in ballots and the U.S. Postal Service to the GOP’s longtime voter suppression strategy, Trump has shown that he will stop at nothing to maintain his grip on power. Trump will not leave office without substantial nonviolent resistance.

That’s why we must think strategically, organize effectively, and mobilize massively. To win, this kind of action needs to be sustained, non-hierarchical, and transformative. And along the way, we intend to build the world we want to live in.

On November 3rd: After the Polls Close, Hit the Streets!

We can’t anticipate exactly how Trump and his enablers will try to attack democracy (although we have been gaming out a number of different scenarios), but we know that the stakes are too high to sit on the sidelines and wait. That’s why we’re making plans to be in the streets as soon as the polls close, ready to adapt and respond to whatever comes our way.

If you’re in St. Louis: Join ResistSTL Downtown to Defend Democracy!

On Election Day, when you’re done voting, doing election protection, getting out the vote, or supporting your community, join us Downtown by City Hall for an election night watch party.

If you’re not in St. Louis: Organize in your community!

Find out where the votes will be counted where you live. Make a plan with others to go there and stay until all the votes are counted. And come up with a plan to create serious disruption if Trump tries to tamper with the election. Be ready to block a highway (or all the highways in your town), shut down a port, occupy your state capitol. Do whatever it takes!

We’re asking everyone who agrees with these organizing principles to PLEDGE TO RESIST Trump’s attacks on democracy. We’re going to make sure he leaves office. From election night on, as the situation changes and evolves pledge to work together to make that happen.

We Pledge to Spread the Word about the need for a massive mobilization to protect the results.

We Pledge to Take Action if Trump or his supporters attempt to interfere with the counting of ballots.

We Pledge to Resist Trump and his attacks on democracy.
