Warn Starmer: don't have the same regret as Trudeau!

When Justin Trudeau resigned, he reflected on his regrets.
“I do wish that we'd been able to change the way we elect our governments in this country”.
You might remember that Trudeau promised to make the 2015 election the last under First Past the Post. Once he got into office he broke that pledge.
Trudeau is leaving office full of regret at the prospect that his policies and legacy will likely be reversed by a new government that might win a majority of the seats on a minority of the vote.
Keir Starmer must be wondering: is he looking across the ocean at himself in 5 years' time?
Can you sign the open letter to Starmer to warn him not to make the same mistake?
Text of the open letter:
Dear Prime Minister,
When Justin Trudeau resigned, he said that he regretted leaving the First Past the Post voting system in place.
First Past the Post means that governments can be elected on very low shares of the vote, and these governments don’t necessarily represent the mood of the country.
In fact, extreme governments elected on a low share of the vote can spend their entire time ripping up everything the previous government did.
Please don’t have the same regret that Trudeau did.
You have spoken many times about the vital need to restore trust in politics. In 2023, you endorsed Labour’s policy programme, which included the recognition that the “flaws in the current voting system are contributing to the distrust and alienation we see in politics”.
We all know how important this is. Now is the time for action. We are asking you to set up a national commission on electoral reform to examine the evidence and take the next step to restore trust in politics.
Yours sincerely,
Emma Harrison
