Thanks to your support, we have surpassed our initial goal, and are currently pushing to a goal of $25 000! We thank you for standing in solidarity with Black and Indigenous community members.
Amidst the ongoing violence of police practices, Black and Indigenous individuals are building one of the largest Civil Rights movements. As this continues to gain more momentum, non-Black and non-Indigenous people must stand in solidarity.
Strength comes from healing.
Climate Justice Toronto is launching a fundraiser to support Black and Indigenous community members in the GTA! This fundraiser is in response to a direct request for community care from Black and Indigenous community members. To support Black and Indigenous people both within our organization and outside of it, we are responding to this request by creating safe, inclusive space for healing. Black and Indigenous communities continue to face the most serious impacts of colonial violence on a daily basis and are simultaneously at the forefront of dismantling this systems of anti-Blackness, settler-colonialism, capitalism and cis-heteropatriachy.
This fundraiser is an act of reciprocity and is done in solidarity with individuals.
With your support, we can raise funds that will go towards community care resources such as:
Creating and delivering care packages;
Creating healing circles that provide a safe space for Black and Indigenous grieving and healing;
Subsidizing support for Black and Indigenous community members, including mental health support, and;
If you are able to donate at this time please consider doing so. We ask those with financial resources to provide funds for this initiative. This fundraiser is done in recognition of the essential need for reparations to be paid to Black and Indigenous peoples, in order to reciprocate wealth that has been created through ongoing theft of Black and Indigenous land, labour and resources.
Please use this opportunity to participate in the reciprocal relationship that non-Black and non-Indigenous Canadians benefit from everyday. We must return the wealth that has been created from the ongoing theft of land, labour and resources.
There will always be a need and duty to support Black and Indigenous community members, so please donate generously if you are able. Thank you!
