Can you help get Kate Salmon and Joe Salmon elected to Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole Council this May?
Kate and Joe are hard-working local campaigners in Moordown. They have been selected as the Green Party's candidates for the ward at the local council elections on Thursday 4 May 2023. They live and work in the local area with her young family.
Kate and Joe were the Green Party candidate for Moordown at the last election in 2019, and Kate came within 43 votes of winning a seat on the council. Since then, Kate with her volunteer team has talked and listened to hundreds of local residents over the last 18 months about what matters most to them. Kate has taken action on a range of issues, including:
- starting a petition for a new pedestrian crossing on Charminster Road - signed by almost 200 local residents
- campaigning for road safety measures along West Way
- raising concerns over BCP Council’s failure to make good after an arson attack at Moordown Rec in 2021
- arranging clean up of offensive graffiti near Brassey Road play area and at Mallard Road play park
- dealing with fly-tipping incidents on Wimborne Road, Hillcrest Close and Gresham Road
- reporting potholes and road defects across the ward: Wimborne Road, Castle Road, Gresham Road and Malvern Road
- pushing the Council over its overdue promise of extra bins for Wimborne Road
- raising concerns over access to Council services for the nearly 10% of Moordown residents who do not use the internet.
Kate says: "I'm passionate about my community, and I want to be able to do more to stand up for Moordown. Becoming a councillor would give me a stronger voice to represent residents and fight for improvements to services in our local area."
Joe Salmon was born and bred in Dorset. He works in the NHS, and has a background in environmental campaigning.
He is committed to making Moordown the best place it can be and creating a safe, pleasant, family-friendly area for the benefit of everyone. Along with Kate, he is raising his family here - so local concerns are his concerns.
Joe has worked with Kate to:
- organise and lead community litter picks in Moordown
- campaign for tougher action on dog fouling, a growing problem in Moordown.
Joe has a proven track record of supporting local residents with their concerns, from his time campaigning in Leeds - where he first met Kate.
Since 2019, BCP's Green councillors Simon Bull and Chris Rigby have shown what a difference a Green councillor team makes. In Winton East they have overseen a range of improvements to Winton Recreation Ground, re-opened Winton Library Gardens to the public and saved local public toilets from closure. They also delivered the declaration of a Climate & Ecological Emergency by BCP Council as one of their very first acts following the last election in 2019.
The Greens are in second place in Moordown,
and we're targeting the ward along with others in
BCP in order to multiply our Green councillor team. It's now
well proven locally that when we work our steps of making a difference
in our communities and regular mass engagement with local residents, people here will back the Greens in large numbers to win council seats. Kate, Joe and other excellent Green activists have been doing just that, all year round
Of course, engaging systematically with thousands of residents does cost money. Especially over the next weeks and months in the run up to the election, when we need to make sure that the Green message reaches every voter. If you are a Green Party member, you may not know that only £3 per year of the average membership subscription finds its way to your local party.
Can you help? We need donations now to support Kate and Joe's campaign in Moordown.
- Your donation of £3 will boost one of our professional-standard polling week local social media adverts to around 300 ordinary voters in key Green sub-postcode areas.
- If you could manage £10, you will be buying around 1,000 local Green Party sponsored social feed impressions, surgically targeted to our key neighbourhoods...
- ...and the number of extra ad impressions just scales up accordingly as any donations get larger.
If everyone gives just £3, or whatever you can afford, Kate and the Green team in Moordown will be able to deliver positive local Green messages to hundreds more local residents.
Thank you for all your support for the Green Party locally and nationally.
