The Milwaukee Area Labor Council would like to announce the formation of a new fund called the Labor Relief Fund, whose purpose is to help union members who have been laid off or furloughed during this COVID-19 crisis. We have chosen to kick-off this special fund on May 1st, International Workers Day, and will be accepting donations throughout this pandemic. We are asking local unions and individual union members who are still working to contribute to this fund. We are asking those union members still working to consider making a donation from their federal stimulus check to help other union members who are not working during this global health crisis. Those union members may be laid off or furloughed, or unable to work for health reasons, and find themselves in financial difficulties. Help will be provided in two areas: Food Security and Mortgage/Rent Assistance. All local unions affiliated with the Milwaukee Area Labor Council and the Waukesha County Labor Council are eligible to direct their members to this fund for assistance. However, assistance will be limited to available money raised.
Checks are to be made out to “Labor Community @ Work,” a 501c3 organization affiliated with MALC, write “Labor Relief Fund” on the memo line.
Checks can be sent to: Milwaukee Area Labor Council. 633 S Hawley Rd., Suite 110, Milwaukee, WI 53214.
All monies will go directly to helping other union members. Anyone receiving help must be a member in good standing, as defined by their local union.
Details on how to apply for assistance will be published soon. Assistance will be limited to the amount of money raised.
