At the end of 2016, it's clearer than ever that the change we seek will come from the bottom up. True power resides not on a golf course or in a tower or in DC. True power is encamped with water protectors at Standing Rock in North Dakota. It exists in hundreds of 350 chapters of across the globe – and locally 350 Madison is galvanizing our community to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis.
In 2016, with your help, we accomplished a lot:
We organized rural landowners up and down line 61 and broadened our coalition to stop Enbridge's Tar Sands Pipeline expansions. We took Enbridge to court to enforce our rights and are planning more legal actions with acclaimed environmental attorneys.
We staged divestment actions and urged UW-Madison to get out of the dirty fossil fuel business.
We held #NoDAPL solidarity events and sent a group of 350 UW-Madison students to Standing Rock with ten tons of food for the Water Protectors.
We got dozens more Madisonians and Wisconsinites involved in the effort to save the planet, building a people-powered movement for a better future.
This August, we also became an incorporated as a 501(c)(3) membership organization. Over 40 individuals and households now contribute monthly to our cause with tax-deductible donations, and many more have become members and contributed one-time gifts. Will you join us?
The future is still ours. Help us fight for it.Tony Gibart and Laura Hanson-Schlacter, on behalf of the fundraising team
