Hello! And welcome! And thank you! Unless you're just here to browse and not donate. Which is fine! And I guess, thank you for thinking about it all the same! But uh... you should donate!!
Why? Because the three charities highlighted in this year's September video are tackling crucial and immediate problems that could really use your support:
In the wake of Texas's six-week ban, safe access to abortions for pregnant people is being threatened. Now as always, bans on legal abortion will only affect those who aren't rich or privileged enough to have abortions done in private/in other areas, but for those who aren't as fortunate, a ban could be a death sentence. The West Fund is an organization based in El Paso that is working with the National Network of Abortion Funds to provide the necessary financial aid and resources to people in West Texas who need access to abortions.
Having been devastated by Hurricane Ida, recovery is of the utmost importance for people in New Orleans. Which means rebuilding communities, as well as their communications and power, rebuilding their resources, establishing relief systems and mutual aid, and working to ensure that their communities can withstand future natural disasters, as well as working to offset the climate destruction that brings them on. Imagine Water Works is a non-profit based in New Orleans, Louisiana that does all this and more.
And on the note of climate destruction– every day we move closer and closer to an irreversible point where a future doesn’t exist for our world. Yes, that sounds apocalyptic, but it’s uhhh true! And the only way to ensure we don’t hit that point is through sincere political action with politicians that are truly committed to enforcing green policies and properly regulating the 100% companies that are responsible for 71% of global emissions. The Sunrise Movement is a national organization that works to push green policies and advocate for climate change on local and federal levels.
And then I’m the guy who does the dumb dance thing to the song. And I would like your help in supporting these orgs in their missions. In exchange? I’ve made you a nice little painting– well, it’s pretty large, it’s 24” x 36”– of a Sept 21st jersey, hung in the rafters. Kind of like the cover of Hoop Dreams. (Exactly like the cover of Hoop Dreams. It’s based on the cover of Hoop Dreams.)
I’m raffling off this painting, and all you have to do to potentially win it is donate at least $10 total. Every $10 you donate? That’s another raffle ticket for the drawing. Donate $20, that’s 2 tickets. Donate $100, that’s 10 tickets. Donate $1000? That’s 100 tickets. Donate $10,000? That’s 1,000 tickets. And an IRS audit. (I’m kidding! I do not know what that is.)
This drawing is open to absolutely anybody in the world, and no matter where you live (as long as it’s safe, and as long as I am allowed to travel there under or post-COVID protocols) I will deliver it to you in person! Imagine me, getting on a plane with a big ol’ painting. Sitting for 12 hours in the sky to hand it to you. The ultimate commitment to the bit! Donate and make it a reality! And every time we hit $100,000, I’ll raffle off an additional jersey. That one will also go anywhere in the world but I probably will not bring it to you unless you’re my neighbor. Or if you live somewhere cool.
Thank you so much for participating in this donation drive. I have enjoyed making these videos in between the bouts of screaming and stressing and absolutely dreading making these videos, and even though I am done making them, I am happy to see what good they’ve done and how much you've all enjoyed them. :) May September 21st live forever in your hearts!!!!!!!
EDIT: I forgot to say as much before but– the raffle ends October 1st! Get your entries in!!!!!!
